We are a very conservative school with families of many backgrounds and convictions. In order to best serve everyone and maintain our culture, we operate within these boundaries and ask that every student AND staff member (temporary or otherwise) does the same, regardless of the family's personal belief. Dancers may not wear/bring the following to class:
Body piercings (except lobe piercings)
Lobe gauges
Unnatural hair color (having a can of colored spray on hand is an easy fix)
Unnaturally long fake nails
Exposed tattoos, even temporary ones
Street clothes with inappropriate words or images
Over-the-top makeup
Gaudy jewelry or jewelry with skulls, witchcraft/magic symbols, etc. (students are usually asked to remove jewelry that could get in the way of their dancing, anyway).
Halloween accessories in October (or any time)
Makeup, earrings, or nail polish on young men
PERFORMANCE ATTIRE:
Ladies: New or new-looking theater pink tights from Balera/Weissman. Pink ballet shoes (absolutely no holes or stains). Dancers may also be asked to provide items like black jazz pants, black scoop-neck short-sleeved leotards (with no gathering in the front and no special design or tie in the back), black leggings of a certain length, and/or nude leotards to go with their costume. Costume information needs will be provided well before a production season begins and a limited amount of these items are often available for borrowing if there is a financial need.
Gentleman: Boys and young men may be asked to supply black baseball pants, a white or black shirt (depending on performance), black long socks, black shorts, and black ballet shoes. Sandals may be required for boys for this semester's performance.
