SUMMER BALLET COMPETITION/PERFORMANCE CAMP
NEW LIFE RANCH, AUGUST 13-14
Rejoice! Children's Ballet Theater is excited to invite you to our fifth annual overnight summer camp--and our third ballet competition! This will be an action packed weekend filled with fun activities and dance instruction, ending in a competition with ballet, theater, and classical contemporary categories. All students who attend camp will participate in an exhibition group dance in the competition, even if they do not enter a competition piece.
WHO IS INVITED TO ATTEND THE CAMP?
Boys and girls age 8+ (and girls ages 6 and 7, accompanied by their moms at an extra price) who have successfully participated in our fall/spring programs . Students who have not been involved in our program may attend by recommendation of a family in good standing at our studio or send in a pastoral character recommendation for our consideration. New students must also come into our studio for an audition to ensure they are a good fit for the camp.
WHO MAY COMPETE IN THE COMPETITION?
Students at the levels of Fun & Foundations silver and gold (or bronze, by invitation only), Foundations, and Company Ensemble (Senior) may compete. Parents must fill out and send a registration form to us by June 10, letting us know on the form that their child would like to compete and in what capacity they would like to compete . (Less experienced or younger dancers are more likely to be accepted as participants in duets/trios rather than as soloists). Parents of students who wish to be accepted as competitors must do ONE of the following:
(1) Register and pay for at least 4 summer privates/semi-privates--see 2021 Summer Competition Privates/Semi-Privates page for available time slots. Registration is open now. Parents of students may save time slots for privates/semi-privates by paying a nonrefundable $25 retainer fee, which will act as a deposit toward their lessons. The rest of the amount is due by June 17 or before their first private-semi-private, whichever comes first. In the semi-privates/privates, accepted students will learn a competition variation or original work from RBA staff. Students wishing to participate in duets/trios will be matched with one or two students at a similar level and will meet with them to learn a variation or original work from RBA staff.
(2) OR let us know in the registration form that your child plans to perform his/her own choreography. Students will need to turn in a music file of no more than 2 1/2 minutes for a solo or 3:15 for a duet or trio (worship or classical) to be cleared by RBA staff by June 17. If the music is not the required length, the competitor can cut the music--but it must be cut in a professional manner for RBA staff to accept it. RBA staff can cut the music at a rate of $15 per song. Not all songs are accepted, so students must clear the songs BEFORE attempting choreography. All students must submit an audition piece WITH previously cleared music by July 8. Not all audition pieces submitted will necessarily be accepted into the competition.
